
Birthdays on the air? Really? Like they did it in the 60s and 70s? Who wants to hear that? Nothing could be more boring. Celebrity birthdays are trite, lack excitement and aren’t that creative.
Okay, I know. I get it. And most times, birthdays don’t work on the air. Who wants to hear a list of celebrities celebrating birthdays, or worse, listeners. I’ve advised dozens of personality shows to get rid of this feature, and take Word of the Day, Horoscopes and Today in History along with it.
But birthdays on the air don’t have to be boring. Hear me out. I’ve come full circle.
I’ve actually heard examples that work. It’s still disposable content, but with the right treatment, these features can be entertaining. Well, except for Horoscopes. I still haven’t found a good way to get through a break with personalities reading a list of what your day is going to be like.
Let’s take the Birthdays feature as an example.
