Emergencies and Tragedy

The Essential Emergency Checklist Every Station Needs

Most families keep an emergency kit at home that includes essentials like batteries, flashlights, bottled water, and a plan everyone understands. Radio stations need the same thing. Not just for natural disasters, but for sudden tragedies, community crises, and fast-moving events that turn a normal broadcast day into controlled chaos. At the very least, you should have an emergency checklist.

When something big happens, listeners instinctively turn to familiar voices. Hopefully, that voice is yours, but trust is earned over the years and can be strengthened or damaged in a single day.

Preparation does not remove emotion or spontaneity. It removes confusion, hesitation, and preventable mistakes.

This emergency checklist is not about turning music stations into newsrooms. It is about helping stations respond with clarity, empathy, and confidence when it matters most.
