This game works because it is easy to explain, surprisingly hard to play, and a lot of fun to play along with in the car. Scary movie dialogue and pop lyrics have a lot more in common than you’d think. Heartbreak songs, in particular, are full of lines that sound like they came from a stalker in a slasher film.
It works for team shows and solo shows, and it fits perfectly into 13 Days of Halloween.

The game works because it creates instant play-along. Every listener hears the line and makes a guess before the contestant does. When the answer is revealed, there’s a moment of “I knew it!” or “No way!” That’s engagement you can feel.
It also connects two things your audience loves: the music you play and the movies they watch in October. And it’s a gentle way to showcase your music. A line from a current hit that sounds creepy out of context gives listeners a new way to hear a familiar song.
How to Play
- Read a line. It’s either a line of dialogue from a scary movie or a lyric from a popular song. Don’t choose the most famous, obvious lines. The best choices could plausibly be either.
- The contestant guesses. Movie or song?
- Award bonus points if the contestant can name the specific movie or song.
- Reveal the answer with audio. Play the actual movie clip or a few seconds of the song after each answer. The payoff is much stronger when listeners hear it.
Play five to seven rounds per game. Keep it moving.
