Recycling Strategy

Recycling: Repurpose Content With A Blog Post

Every other repurposing tactic operates on a short timeline. Social posts peak in hours, email lands after the show and is archived shortly after, and on-demand audio has a 24-hour ratings window, then becomes library content. The blog is different. When you repurpose content with a blog post featuring a point-of-view, you can attract attention in search results for years. It’s not about engaging current listeners or fans. It’s to attract new people who would never have discovered you otherwise. The tactic is a long-game secret weapon for building a brand.

Repurpose Content With A Blog Post: It’s a Good Idea

Companies issue quotas and direct orders to personalities because it keeps the website active with fresh content. But that’s not the best reason to write blog posts.

The primary reason is simple: Search. Every other repurposing channel requires the audience to know you exist. They follow you on social, are on your email list, or check out on-demand audio because they’re fans. Search brings in people who don’t know you and weren’t looking for you. They were looking for content about something you talked about (wrote about), and your blog post put it in front of them.

A listener who finds a post about navigating a difficult conversation with a parent, or the most awkward things that have happened at weddings, or whether couples should have separate finances, discovers your personality, which could lead them to your show. If the post is good and video or audio is embedded, there’s a real chance they listen. If they listen and like it, there’s a chance they’ll tune in.

The blog also serves the existing audience by going deeper than radio allows. A topic that got three minutes on air can get 600 words on the blog with more context, listener contributions, and the cast’s deeper thoughts.
