Ask The Experts Question: Is Airing Local Features Enough For A Local Presence?

Question for Ask The Experts:

I have a couple of local features on my show that I do once a week. Wouldn’t those features fill a lot of my local bucket, and I don’t need to do much beyond that?

(Content Additives Seminar…part of the Localize-Maximize-Monetize series), you encouraged personalities and programmers to be micro-local. If I talk about very small communities or landmarks, doesn’t that eliminate most of my audience? What am I missing here?

Answer: You’re on the right track by creating those features—bravo for making the effort to be local in a meaningful way. But here’s the reality: most listeners catch your show in small, random bursts. They aren’t sitting through an hour, let alone timing their day to catch a weekly segment.
