There are three critical considerations when constructing a new morning show. The first is casting a mix of characters who complement one another and generate creative friction. Another is ensuring members understand what is expected. Each personality must fit the team’s strategy. And the third is often overlooked: Performing on a team show is like a dance.
Many shows are put together like an arranged marriage. Management takes the best parts of several shows and builds what they believe (hope) will be successful. It can work, but problems occur when roles and expectations are unclear.
Performing on the air is like a dance. Someone must lead, and the partner(s) must follow. If multiple dance partners try to lead, there are stumbles and spills. The toes are crushed, and the ankles are sprained. It’s a mess. Alternatively, if nobody leads, nothing happens. The dance is a mess.
