Creating great content is a grind. The daily creative process pays off, but as you’re high-fiving and celebrating the most recent masterpiece, it’s time to start working on what is next. The content beast has an insatiable appetite, and it’s easy to become overwhelmed, which usually results in falling into a creative rut. Systems seem like the natural enemy of creativity, but the two can coexist. Finding the best formula that works for you will pay off.
The Daily Creative Process
It’s easy to get lazy in the preparation and planning stages. When there’s so much demand for new content, many personalities rely on spontaneity, hoping something good happens.
That’s why we have created a daily creative process show prep checklist as a guide to organize your preparation and ensure nothing slips through the cracks. Executing everything in this comprehensive plan may not be practical, but applying the most relevant aspects will soon make it your best friend.
Review Each Performance
A short meeting to analyze the most recent performance is critical. Most good segments are not as great as you thought and weak ones usually aren’t as bad as you fear. A short review will keep you focused and identify problems while they’re still small. Here are some questions to ask:
What went well? What was the best thing that happened? Why?
What could have made the best moments even better?
Which segments were flat? How could it have been better?
Did we miss anything? Was there something that should have/could have been on but we missed it? Could we do it later?
How were individual character traits demonstrated? In what way did the audience get to know each cast member better?
What are our biggest challenges? What do we need to succeed that we don’t currently have?
